Evolocity Group | On Saturday the 28th of October the Massey High School Evolocity team became national winners at the Evolocity New Zealand championships at Mount Smart stadium Auckland. The team came first in the endurance standard bike, time attack race and second in the drag race against teams from all over New Zealand. The team was led by Kiran Whyte and ably assisted on the day by Sam Anderton and Ryan Fairweather. Sam Ogilvy is also part of the team but was unable to be there on the day. Our four Year 12 students from the Automotive Academy MHS have worked throughout the year adding electric motors to the bikes and working on a Go Kart, all with electric motors. The team arrived at 7:00 AM to prepare the bike and they succeeded in passing the scrutineering at the first attempt. They then set off to display their two bikes which were entered at this year's national competition. The weekend before they had qualified at the Auckland regional competition by winning their races and this time, they also took pole positions in two of the races. The time attack endurance race and the drag race. In fact, during the racing both bikes achieved identical second place times in the drag race 0.5 seconds off the top time, so we secured second place. In the endurance race we finished first with the bike Nutcracker doing a great job until its victory lap where in a very timely fashion the back cogs sheared off. Between races there was bike and car drifting shows and car drifting shows from Hayden Paddon New Zealand 's national champion in both his petrol and electric rally cars and the Auckland University formula SAE team car. A big thank you to the support team on the day, Mrs. & Mr Whyte who provided transport and supplies during the day for our competitive students. Many thanks also to Mr. Thompson through the year who has guided the team in the workshop and provided additional skills to be used on the bikes and kart. We look forward to seeing this team develop further in 2024 when our students will be in Year 13 and will hopefully further develop their bikes and complete the go Kart which will be entered into the open class competition. |

Aurelien Lopes, Gab Aninion, Harriet Barter, Kay Hooper, Ava Garratt, Ada Kim, Ray Lebis, Simeon Kim and Lachlan Doyle | Over the weekend of 25th and 26th March, Massey high school's Model United Nations club attended Auckland Model UN (A.M.U.N) at the University of Auckland’s Owen Glenn Building. It was an exciting opportunity for our students to get involved in the wider Auckland community. Each student represented a member of the real United Nations and debated exciting topics like the ethics of nuclear energy and freedom of speech. It was a valuable experience to share with others and the wider government the thoughts and feelings of young people and gain insight into how our world is run. All members did very well and enjoyed their time at Auckland university greatly, so much so that they are currently planning to attend the NZMUN in Wellington later this year. |
