Principal's Pānui
5 July 2024
Our second Showcase – featuring some of our contributing schools – came to a close last night with a stunning performance from Massey High School Alumnus Ellaphon Tauariki who gave a masterclass in singing. The Showcase has again been a huge success thanks to the organisational work of our Arts Leaders, the Backstage Club, Nick Baldwin, Rebecca Polderman, Alan Motufoua, and Sue McElroy.
Of course, the show couldn’t have gone ahead without the amazing talent on display by our students each night. Whether it be the fantastic drum solos performed by Seb Warren or our bands performing brilliant original pieces, every performance was outstanding. Of course, the other factor each night was the contribution from our contributing schools who participated – Waimauku School, Lincoln Heights, Hobsonville Primary, Waitakere Primary, Don Buck Primary, and Riverhead School all brought up and coming talent on their allocated night – it was great to see students from Years 5 through 8 performing on the big stage. We trust that the parents of all students involved from these schools enjoyed the shows.
We return to holding a Production in 2025.
It was great to be able to see our Girls Hockey Team in action as they defeated Henderson High School 5-1 last night. The culture of the team is superb, and they look to be preparing well for their upcoming Winter Tournament thanks to the coaching provided by former student Amy Jamieson.
As Term 2 comes to a close, it is an opportune time to look ahead to coming events. Thursday brings possibly the most anticipated event of the year for many of our senior students – The School Ball. A special notice will be going out to parents and caregivers of those students going to the ball on Wednesday – please keep an eye out for that.
Our Netballers head to Australia next Sunday for their tour. We wish them all the best.
A reminder as well of upcoming parent teacher interviews which will take place on Thursday 1st August (Week 2) bookings are now open, details are elsewhere in the newsletter.
Term 3 will also see around 100 students from Japan and China joining us, such visits add much to the fabric of Massey High School.
We trust that all parents, caregivers, and students, will have a safe and enjoyable holiday break. While it is an opportunity to spend quality time with whānau and friends.
We ask that our students balance their holiday time with some time to reflect on their progress to date, to look at what support they may need for upcoming assessments and formulate a plan to achieve their goals for the year. Term 3 is always a busy term for those undertaking NCEA across all levels.
For all, take time for yourself where needed. Massey High School will see everyone again on Monday 22nd July.
