Teacher Training at Massey High School
We are very proud to announce that three trainee teachers have successfully completed their Diplomas in Teaching (Waikato University). A graduation ceremony took place at Westlake Boys School to celebrate the achievements of the largest cohort to date. All our trainees have secured teaching positions with us next year.
Tamar Tielu will be teaching Maths, Rory van Westrene will be teaching Digital Technology, and Scott Wright will be teaching Hospitality. They were joined by their families, mentor teachers, Mr Fairley and Ms Garratt.
The ASTTP course is aligned with the University of Waikato and offers trainees an in-school training programme which better prepares them for their future career than more traditional University-based courses. We have already filled our two allocated spaces for 2025 and will be welcoming Ariane Bourneville and Alan Motufoua as trainees in Technology and Music respectively.
As a school we are committed to training the next generation of teachers. We have two Teach First trainees. Our first is Grace Fusitu’a, formerly a Dean, who will train as a Health and PE teacher. The second is Marvis Pauli, an ex-student, who will teach Business and Commerce. We are also excited to be part of the Teacher’s Institute, which is the new in-school training programme, and have recruited Janne Galbraith to train as an English teacher. Janne has previously worked as a University lecturer in Communication Studies and as a publishing editor bringing with her valuable experience and skills.
