Safety in the Community

Safety Tips for Students

With recent community posts and reports of incidents in Auckland being shared, involving students walking home from school, it is a timely reminder for our young people to stay safe in the community. Whilst these incidents are extremely rare, NZ Police advise that all should:

  1. Have an awareness of your surroundings
  2. Walk in pairs or groups whenever possible
  3. Walk in well-lit areas and where others are around - especially as it is getting dark
  4. Leave at least one ear free of headphones to hear vehicles/persons approaching
  5. If you are feeling worried, unsafe or nervous – to go to the nearest place where there are people
  6. Consider taking photos or noting registration plates
  7. Dial 111 and ask for Police (no credit required for emergency calls)

Be aware of when practices and games finish so that arrangements can be made for students to get home safely.
