Principal's Pānui
31 March 2025
A huge week ahead with Polyfest 2025 getting underway. It starts with the pōwhiri on Tuesday, and representatives from Massey High School perform on Wednesday and Friday.
This year we are thrilled to have 6 groups travelling to Polyfest. On Wednesday, Massey High School will showcase our Fijian, Thai, and Tuvaluan groups. Friday is the opportunity for our Samoan and Tongan groups and Kapa Haka to take centre stage.
As always, it takes a village to prepare these groups – the dedication of the students involved, through to the countless hours given up by families and tutors will ensure that regardless of results on the day, each group will present themselves and their cultures as best they can. A huge thanks to our teachers as well that have been actively involved in rehearsals after school.
The dress rehearsal for this takes place on Monday night at our annual Cultural Evening. The evening is sold out, and tickets must be collected prior to entry.
Friday is also the day of our first Massey High School Rugby Alumni Luncheon. Held at the Massey Rugby Club and hosted by media personality James McOnie, this is the last big fundraising drive for the rapidly approaching Rugby Tour of Japan. The luncheon has the support of our 5 All Blacks (including one current) amongst other international representatives who developed their game at Massey High School – there will also be an opportunity to recognize the support of parents and caregivers through the years. Thank you to Jarrod Framheim for taking the lead on the organization of this event.
Our first Parent Teacher Meeting of the year was a successful evening. We had a great turnout of families with their children to discuss progress thus far and what can be done in the months ahead to ensure success. The engagement of families at the evening bodes well for the year ahead given the impact that support in the home has on success at school.
As we enter the last two weeks of the first Term, a reminder to all to finish the Term strong – be mindful of doing the basics well and being prepared – assessments for many begin to fall due at this time. For our Year 9 and 10 students it’s the continued development of good habits that will prepare them well for NCEA (for our Year 9 students this is supported by our new weekly programme).
The last major event of the Term is our upcoming sports exchange with Onehunga High School.
